March PPC News & Trends in Digital Advertising

As a Florida digital marketing company that offers in-depth pay-per-click services, our PPC specialists are always looking for new ways to improve their skills to benefit our clients. Here are some recent updates we noticed in the PPC world:

  • Google to unify GA4 & Google Ads conversion windows: Google Ads is now using Google Analytics 4’s conversion window settings. This began on March 31, 2023, to ensure clear and consistent reporting between the two platforms. Advertisers can opt out of this change by contacting Google support, although accurate reporting is crucial for any data-driven efforts.
  • Microsoft introduces category-based targeting for Search Ads: Microsoft’s new search advertising solution for retailers is designed to improve campaign performance with category-based targeting and boosted bids. The solution combines categories and keywords to improve overall campaign performance.
  • Google enhances Discovery Ads, boosting engagement & conversions: Google’s Discovery Ads have new features that enable brands to captivate consumers with tailored experiences and more accurate data analysis. This change comes with improved reporting and measurement features that allow advertisers to optimize their campaigns more effectively.

March 2023 SEO Trends

Our SEO specialists focus on organic or non-paid forms of increasing user traffic on our clients’ websites. Keyword research, competitor analysis, and tools like SEMRush and Google Search Console allow us to see how we can better serve internet users. Below are some of the new digital marketing updates that our search engine optimization specialists uncovered in March:

  • Google released Core Algorithm update in March 2023: Google released its first core update of the year on March 15, 2023, with the rollout taking about two weeks. The full impact has yet to be truly understood by digital marketers. This makes it integral to monitor metrics, assess and ensure quality content, and optimize technical SEO, as the update takes effect.
  • Web Core Vitals continues to be impactful for search engines: Google’s Core Web Vitals play an important role in measuring the quality of a site’s UX and page experience. Accessible through both Google Search Console and PageSpeed Insights, digital marketers can also obtain Google’s recommendations for improving scores and optimizing their site’s overall performance.
  • The balance between human-written content and AI-generated content: Arguably, one of the most talked about events in marketing currently is AI ChatGPT, which comes with some benefits and drawbacks for SEO specialists and content writers alike. Fortunately, this AI doesn’t seem to be replacing any digital marketers, and there seem to be numerous ways to utilize it to our benefit.
  • Things to consider in SEO in 2023: from AI content to E-A-T: From AI content to E-A-T to the possible death of Google Ads, there are many things that seem to be changing in 2023. Some worth considering regarding SEO in 2023 include Google Ads giving way to organic search, a rise in featured and zero-click snippets, and overused AI content, among other things.

March Social Media Updates

Social media is an irreplaceable tool that allows clients to reach a wider audience online and get their businesses out there. Our team has discovered some social media marketing updates that could make a major difference in the way social media is used for marketing.

  • Instagram creates reminder ads and promoted results in search: Instagram is launching two new ad options. The first is Reminder Ads, which enable users to opt into alerts ahead of an event. The second is ads in search results, which helps them better connect with users. This update is meant to help advertisers build awareness, anticipation, and consideration for upcoming events.
  • Meta launches new Meta-Verified Program in the US:  Meta has announced its new Meta-Verified Program will be made available to users in the US, meaning that American users will now be able to purchase the blue checkmark on Facebook or Instagram for $11.99 per month on the web or $14.99 in-app.
• YouTube adds multi-language audio analytics, new shorts music sharing options: YouTube is adding some additional insight data for creators using its new multi-language audio (MLA) feature. This gives creators the capacity to add multiple audio tracks in different languages to their videos. The platform is also wanting to help musicians make better use of shorts with a new option to link to audio pivot pages.
  • TikTok leads the app download charts in Q1 2023: Despite the ongoing talk about TikTok bans in the US – and potentially other regions – TikTok released a performance report recently showing that it surpassed Instagram as the most downloaded app in Q1 2023. Not only did TikTok lead in both downloads and consumer spending in the first three months of 2023, but it also beat both Snapchat and Messenger’s total downloads of the editing app CapCut.
